The Birth of 13log

According to Wikipedia, as of February 2011, there were over 156 million public blogs in existence, give or take a few. Roughly, that’s enough blogs for every person in Bangladesh, India to have a blog or half of the American population as of this writing.

What I’m saying is that the world really doesn’t need another blog. So why bother?

First, for the same reason a lot of people do it: It’s my site, and I can. More importantly, though, because friends often ask me, “How do you … [fill in the blank] … ” and, by having an online index, I can save a little time when asked for the same information a second or third time. Also, because, once in a while, I’ll come across a problem and find the solution buried in the thirty-third website I view, and by putting it here, maybe someone else won’t have to look quite as hard to find said solution. And, finally, now and again, I just feel like writing about something, and — getting back to my original reason — it’s my site, and I can.

This blog, which we’ve dubbed 13log (like that?), doesn’t aspire to be the be-all-end-all of a particular topic. It’s not going to be the “go to” place for photo tips or recipes or any one thing in particular. It’s going to be a random place (because it’s my site, and I can, remember?) with random topics that you may find interesting or helpful.

We may post something geekish, crafty, newsworthy, charitable, or not so much. And while a particular topic may bore you, what we won’t do is bore you with just one topic.

So, let’s hit the blogosphere …
